Agent Roger will Aren unbedingt für einen Geheimbund schwarzer Amerikaner namens „American Society of Magical Negroes“ gewinnen. Diese Gruppe hat es sich zum Ziel gesetzt, eine Welt zu schaffen, in der schwarze Menschen nicht mehr tagtäglich bedroht werden. Deren Methoden als unkonventionell zu bezeichnen, wäre nicht wirklich weit hergeholt. Denn die Mitglieder der Society haben offenbar magische Fähigkeiten, besitzen allerhand merkwürdige Technologien und verfolgen damit auch noch eher ungewöhnliche Absichten. Denn um das gesteckte Ziel zu erreichen, sollen zunächst die Leben der weißen Mitmenschen verbessert werden, um so das Stresslevel herabzusenken. So richtig kompliziert werden die Dinge für Aren jedoch erst, als er in einem Café Lizzie kennenlernt, sich in sie verliebt und dann während einer seiner Einsätze unerwartet auftaucht. Und der Geheimbund hat nicht vor, diese Liebe zu tolerieren...
