Der kaltherzige Ebenezer Scrooge ist ein sehr einsamer Mensch, hat weder Freunde noch Familie und wird von seinen Angestellte gefürchtet und verachtet - schließlich möchte der alte Geizkragen ihnen während der kalten Wintertage nicht einmal ein Stück Kohle zugestehen. Selbst die anstehenden Weihnachtstage entlocken dem alten Kauz nur ein verächtliches "Humbug". Ebenezers Lebenseinstellung soll sich aber radikal ändern, als er von den Geistern der Weihnacht heimgesucht wird...
