Sinn und Zweck der medial ausgeschlachteten Auseinandersetzung ist die Ablenkung der Menschen von ihren Alltagsproblemen. Die Bevölkerung soll durch das hoch über ihren Köpfen tobende Schlachtenszenario ruhiggestellt werden. Leidtragende sind dabei die Kriegspiloten, die zu Tausenden ihr Leben lassen. Ein solches potenzielles Opfer ist auch das junge Fliegerass Yuichi, dem mysteriöserweise jede Erinnerung an seine Vergangenheit fehlt. Auf seiner neuen Basis wird ihm schnell klargemacht, dass er zu den Kildren gehört, einer genmanipulierten Menschenkaste, die nicht altert und nur für die Kriegsspiele der Konzerne taugt. Der immergleiche Stationsalltag zwischen dem Warten auf Einsatzbefehle, heiklen Kampfmissionen und gelegentlichen Bar- und Bordellbesuchen kann Yuichi nicht befriedigen. Nur zu seiner strengen Kommandeurin Suito fühlt er sich hingezogen – doch die einsame Frau verbirgt ein streng gehütetes Geheimnis, das Yuichi aller Warnungen zum Trotz unbedingt enthüllen will.
