Mit ihrem Job als Sekretärin in einem Verlagshaus ist die junge dynamische Thea glücklich und zufrieden. Als ihr Chef Jerry sie jedoch feuern will, macht die Not sie erfinderisch. "Ich bin schwanger." Und diese drei Worte verfehlen nicht ihre Wirkung. Jerry zieht ihre Kündigung zurück. Doch was nun? Sich den nächstbesten Typen schnappen und wirklich schwanger werden? Wohl kaum. Die Wahrheit sagen? Unmöglich. Ausgestattet mit falschem Bauch und typischen Schwangerschaftssymptomen bleibt Thea der Lüge treu und gewinnt als werdende Mutter zunehmend Respekt und Beliebtheit in der Firma. Wie das Pech es will hat dann auch noch Nick, der jüngere Bruder des Chefs, die Idee ein Buch mit Schwangerschaftsgeschichten zu veröffentlichen und macht Thea zu seiner stellvertretenden Direktorin...
