Allen Gewalten zum Trotz (1956)
Als Douglas Bader im Spetember 1928 auf dem Royal Air Force College Cranwell antritt, geht für ihn ein Kindheitstraum in Erfüllung - Fliegen! Mit seinem Kumpel Johnny Sanderson wird der aufsässige Douglas nach bestandener Prüfung 1930 nach Kinlay verlegt, wo er bei einem Kunstflug-Manöver schwer verunglückt. Der Chirurg Dr. Joyce kann zwar sein Leben retten, jedoch nicht seine Beine. Während seine Erholungszeit lernt er die Kellnerin Thelma kennen, die ihn trotz seiner Invalidität nicht im Stich lässt und ihn schließlich heiratet. als 1939 der Krieg ausbricht, darf Douglas trotz vorheriger Absage endlich wieder fliegen. Douglas beginnt eine erstaunliche Karriere als Pilot, der sich trotz der Amputation beider Beine im Zweiten Weltkrieg als Jagdflieger einen großen Namen macht.
