House of D (2004)
Illustrator Tommy lebt mit Frau und Sohn in Paris. Sein Alltag ist ziemlich chaotisch, und als ihm klar wird, dass die Ursachen dafür wohl in seiner konfusen Vergangenheit liegen, beginnt er, sich mit der Geschichte seiner Kindheit im New Yorker Greenwich Village zu beschäftigen. Dort versucht er sich als 13-Jähriger mit Blödeleien in der katholischen Schule über den Verlust des Vaters zu trösten und seine Mutter wenigstens ab und zu zum Lachen zu bringen. Halt gibt ihm die Freundschaft mit dem zurückgebliebenen Hausmeister Pappass, mit dem zusammen er Botendienste für einen Fleischer erledigt. Er erlebt seine erste Liebe und macht die Bekanntschaft von Lady Bernadette, die im „House Of D" einsitzt – ein Gefängnis, dessen Insassen mit den Passanten auf der Straße sprechen können. Es ist vor allem ein tragisches Ereignis seiner Kindheit, das ihn als Erwachsener nicht los lässt, bis er mit seiner Familie nach New York zurück kehrt, um endlich ein paar Dinge abzuschließen.
