Life Itself (2014)
Für viele war Roger Ebert der vielleicht einflussreichste Filmkritiker Amerikas. Am 4. April 2013 verstarb der hochangesehene Publizist nach langem Krebsleiden. Über 45 Jahre lang schrieb er seine vielzitierten Kritiken für die Chicago Sun-Times und trat außerdem gemeinsam mit dem Kollegen Gene Siskel von 1975 bis 1999 in verschiedenen Fernsehformaten auf. Darin debattierten die Kritiker, die häufig gegensätzlicher Meinungen waren, über aktuelle Filme. Ebert wurde unter anderem mit dem Pulitzer-Preis ausgezeichnet und erhielt einen Stern auf dem Hollywood Walk of Fame. Im Jahr 2011 veröffentlichte Ebert seine Autobiographie „Life Itself“, auf die sich Regisseur Steve James in seiner Dokumentation stützt. In seinem Film dokumentiert James das Leben und Schaffen des berühmten Filmkritikers bis zu dessen Tod.
