Der elfjährige Toe Thompson ist ein leichtes Ziel für die Rowdys in der kleinen Stadt Black Falls, wo Toes Eltern wie alle anderen für Black Box Industries arbeiten und den ultimativen Allzweck-Kommunikationsapparat herstellen – er ist aus keinem Haushalt mehr wegzudenken.Doch dann stürmt es plötzlich, und ein geheimnisvoller Regenbogenstein fällt vom Himmel: Wer ihn in der Hand hält, bekommt seine Wünsche erfüllt. Toe hielt seine Nachbarn immer schon für verrückt, aber jetzt drehen sie wirklich durch: Der Regenbogenstein hinterlässt im Ort seine Spuren, wechselt von Kind zu Kind, von Vätern zu Müttern, und alle ihre Wünsche werden wahr. Schon nach kurzer Zeit wird die Stadt von winzigen Aliens und gigantischen Nasenpopeln heimgesucht – ein total ausgeflipptes Chaos.
