Maurice (1987)
England um die Jahrhundertwende: Als der schüchterne Maurice in Cambridge sein Studium beginnt, ist er fasziniert von den neuen Eindrücken und von der Weltgewandtheit seiner adligen Kommilitonen. Besonders der versnobte Clive Durham beeindruckt den behütet aufgewachsenen, einzigen Sohn einer gutbürgerlichen Witwe. Zwischen den Studenten entwickelt sich eine zarte Romanze. Verwirrt und widerstrebend gibt sich Maurice den verbotenen Gefühlen für seinen neuen Freund hin. Obwohl Clive auf eine platonischen Beziehung besteht, bestimmt Maurices Liebe zu ihm fortan sein Leben. Er vernachlässigt sein Studium und wird von der Universität verwiesen. Während der junge Mann ein Laufbahn als Börsenmakler einschlägt, setzt er im Geheimen die Beziehung zu Clive fort. Auf dem Landsitz der Familie Durham verleben die beiden unbeschwerte Stunden, bis Clives Mutter ihren Sohn drängt, endlich zu heiraten.
