Eine Woche vor Weihnachten erhält die allein erziehende Liza McCann, einen verstörenden Anruf von Ihrem Vater Jack. Der Workaholic, der sie ist, soll mit ihrem Sohn Mason nach Hollyville fahren und mit ihrem sonst so zugeknöpften Vater Weihnachten feiern. Dies hat der ehemalige Bankangestellte seit Lizas Kindheit nicht mehr gemacht. In Hollyville angekommen, wird alles noch verrückter. Ihr Vater arbeitet im örtlichen Café und gibt sich so sorglos und aufgeräumt, dass Liza glaubt, er sei verrückt geworden. Noch verrückter ist die Fabrik, wo Arbeiter, ganz in rot und grün gekleidet, Geschenke auf einen Schlitten laden, beaufsichtigt von einem Mann, der wie Santa Claus aussieht. Aber in den folgenden Tagen kommt Liza, ihrem Vater wieder näher, hilft ihrem Sohn, der zu sein, der er wirklich sein will und entdeckt, dass auch die Liebe in ihrem Leben wieder eine Chance hat - Das macht der Geist von Christmas Town.
