Jonathan Corliss will um jeden Preis in die 'Bessere Gesellschaft', dafür ist ihm jedes Mittel recht. Der einfachste Weg: Einheiraten. Doch die von ihm auserwählte Großindustriellen-Tochter Dory Carlsson durchkreuzt seine Pläne - und muss dafür sterben. Jonathan sieht aber nicht ein, sein Vorhaben aufzugeben und macht sich an Dorys Zwillingsschwester Ellen heran, mit Erfolg. Ellen kommt jedoch nicht über den noch immer ungeklärten Tod ihrer Schwester hinweg. Jedes mal, wenn sie glaubt, eine Spur zu haben, kommen die Informanten auf seltsame Weise ums Leben. Bis sie eines Tages Jonathans düsteres Geheimnis aufdeckt - es kommt zum Kampf um Leben und Tod...
