Queen of Katwe (2016)
Phiona Mutesi wächst in den Slums von Katwe nahe der Hauptstadt von Uganda in einer der ärmsten Gegenden der Welt auf und kann weder lesen noch schreiben. Nicht einmal ihr genaues Geburtsdatum ist bekannt. Ihr Vater und ihre Schwester sind früh gestorben und ihre Mutter Harriet ist selten zu Hause, um etwas Geld für den Rest der Familie zu verdienen. Doch ihr Leben ändert sich, als sie den Missionar und Schachlehrer Robert Katende trifft, der ihr im Gegenzug für etwas zu essen einige Unterrichtsstunden im Schach zu erteilen beginnt, als sie gerade einmal neun Jahre alt ist. Phiona wird neugierig und entdeckt das Spiel für sich. Als geduldige Schülerin und Naturtalent schafft sie es schließlich sogar zur Meisterin ihres Landes und noch viel weiter...
