Aretha Franklin: Amazing Grace (2018)
1972 steht Aretha Franklin im Zenit ihrer Karriere. Doch nach 20 Studioalben inklusive elf Nummer-eins-Hits beschließt die Queen of Soul zu ihren musikalischen Wurzeln zurückzukehren: In der Missionary Baptist Church in Watts, Los Angeles, gibt sie zusammen mit dem Southern California Community Choir und der Gospellegende Reverend James Cleveland ein Konzert und lässt einen Mitschnitt für das Album aufnehmen. Das Ergebnis „Amazing Grace“ ist bis heute das meistverkaufte Gospelalbum aller Zeiten. Aufgrund technischer und juristischer Schwierigkeiten wurden die Aufnahmen jedoch nie öffentlich gezeigt. Erst jetzt, 47 Jahre später, erstrahlt der Film erstmals auf der großen Leinwand. AMAZING GRACE ist mehr als ein Konzertfilm. Er ist die Manifestation eines der größten Talente des 20. Jahrhunderts, ein Erlebnis purer Soul-Energie, ein mitreißender musikalischer Gottesdienst und ein faszinierendes Zeitdokument.
