Ponette (1996)
Ponettes Mutter stirbt während eines Autounfalls. Da ihr atheistischer Vater nicht in der Lage ist, mit diesem Trauma umzugehen, bringt er sie bei ihrer Tante und deren Kindern, unter. Ponette wird jedoch zunehmend verschlossener und verbringt die meiste Zeit des Tages – angespornt durch den ausgeprägten Glauben ihrer Tante – damit, Gott darum zu bitten, ihre Mutter wieder lebendig zu machen. Als sie in einem Ferienlager mitbekommt, dass ein Mädchen namens Ada als „Kind Gottes“ bezeichnet wird, entwickelt sich eine Freundschaft zwischen den beiden. Ponette erhofft sich durch Mutproben, die Ada ihr auferlegt, ebenfalls ein solches „Kind Gottes“ zu werden, und so Gott dazu zu überreden, ihr ihre Mutter wiederzugeben. Nachdem Ponette schließlich von zuhause ausreißt und alleine zum Grab ihrer Mutter wandert, trifft sie diese dort in Gedanken und lernt so über die Trauer hinwegzukommen.
