Menschen am Fluß (1984)
Der Fluß, an dem die Familie lebt, ernährt mehr recht als schlecht Tom und Mae Garvey und ihre Kinder. Das Schicksal meint es nicht sehr gut mit ihnen: Ihre einzige Kuh stirbt, eine Mißernte treibt sie an den Rand des Ruins, und außerdem versucht ein skrupelloser Spekulant, ihnen ihr Land abzujagen, weil dort Bodenschätze vermutet werden. Hinzu kommt die Angst vor der Unberechenbarkeit des Flusses, der eines Tages tatsächlich über die Ufer tritt. Nun wird der Kampf um die Existenz lebensgefählich…
