Ich erschoß Jesse James (1949)
Die berüchtigte James-Bande nimmt sich die Bank von Topeka vor. Doch diesmal verlässt sie das Glück, die Beute ist gleich null und Bob Ford wird schwer verletzt. Jesse kann ihn in letzter Minute vom Tatort wegschaffen und bringt ihn nach St. Joseph, Missouri. Dort kuriert er unter falschem Namen - als Tom Howard - seine Verwundung aus. Bei der Vorstellung einer Wanderbühne entdeckt Bob Ford seine Jugendliebe Cynthy wieder. Die alte Leidenschaft flammt auf, er will Cynthy unbedingt zu seiner Frau machen. Doch er weiß: Das Mädchen liebt den Luxus, ein Habenichts kommt für sie nicht infrage. Also beschließt er, sich die 1000 Dollar zu verdienen, die auf Jesse James' Kopf ausgesetzt sind...
