Afrika 1942: Rommel hat die großen Schlachten in der Wüste für sich entschieden. Mit einer Handvoll Überlebender und jeder Menge Munition flieht US-Sergeant Joe Gunn in seinem alten Panzer vor der deutschen Armee. Die Wüste entpuppt sich aber als Todesfalle, denn ohne Wasser sind die Männer zum Sterben verdammt. In einem verwüsteten Fort finden sie die letzten Tropfen der einzigen Quelle weit und breit, allerdings gibt es da noch ein Hindernis: Ein 550 Mann starkes Bataillon deutscher Soldaten vor der Tür. Doch Gunn nimmt den hoffnungslosen Kampf um die Wasserstelle auf. Eine gnadenlose Schlacht beginnt auf Leben und Tod...
