The Dry (2021)
Bundesagent Aaron Falk kehrt nach über zwanzig Jahren Abwesenheit in seine Heimatstadt zurück, um der Beerdigung seines Jugendfreundes Luke beizuwohnen, der angeblich seine Frau und sein Kind getötet hat, bevor er sich das Leben nahm - ein Opfer des Wahnsinns, der diese Gemeinde nach mehr als einem Jahrzehnt der Dürre heimgesucht hat. Als Falk widerwillig zustimmt, zu bleiben und das Verbrechen zu untersuchen, reißt er eine alte Wunde auf - den Tod der 17-jährigen Ellie Deacon. Falk beginnt zu vermuten, dass diese beiden Verbrechen, die Jahrzehnte auseinander liegen, miteinander verbunden sind. Während er darum kämpft, nicht nur Lukes Unschuld, sondern auch seine eigene zu beweisen, sieht sich Falk mit Vorurteilen ihm gegenüber und der aufgestauten Wut einer verängstigten Gemeinde konfrontiert.
