Der Gymnasiast Raphaël verbringt seine Tage am liebsten mit seinem Freund Felix. Während er gerade an einem Science-Fiction-Roman schreibt, begegnet er Olivia, einer Mitschülerin, die leidenschaftlich gerne Klavier spielt. Diese erste magische Begegnung beflügelt ihn so sehr, dass er danach genug Inspiration hat, um seinen Roman zu beenden. Zehn Jahre später wurde das Werk als imposantes Leinwandspektakel verfilmt und aus Raphaël ist ein Besteller-Autor mit einer beachtlichen Karriere und vielen Auftritten im Fernsehen und Internet geworden. Er hat sich zu einem Mann verwandelt, der außer für sich selbst, keinen Platz mehr für andere in seinem Leben hat. Aus der Ehe mit Olivia ist eine kalte und distanzierte Beziehung geworden. Nachdem sie sein letztes Buch beendet und gemeinsam darüber gesprochen haben, sich zu trennen, gehen beide schlafen. Doch am nächsten Morgen wacht der Schriftsteller auf und findet sich plötzlich in einer alternativen Realität wieder.
