In einer post-apokalyptischen Welt lebt Momma mit ihren 10-jährigen Zwillingssöhnen Samuel und Nolan in einer einsamen Hütte im Wald. Die Hütte und der enge Zusammenhalt der kleinen Familie sind der einzige Schutz vor den Bedrohungen des Waldes und dem Bösen in der Welt. Momma bläut ihren Kindern ein, dass sie das Haus nur verlassen dürfen, wenn sie mit langen Stricken damit verbunden bleiben: Wird diese Verbindung gekappt, lauert der Tod! Doch als einen der Jungen Zweifel an Mommas Warnungen beschleichen, wird das Band, das die Drei verbindet, jäh durchtrennt. Ein schrecklicher Kampf ums Überleben beginnt.
