Holy Spider (2022)
Eine Reihe von unaufgeklärten Morden an Prostituierten hält die Heilige Stadt Maschhad im Nordosten des Iran in Atem: „Spinnenmörder“ nennen sie den Serienkiller, der von sich glaubt, die Arbeit Gottes zu verrichten, indem er die Straßen vom Dreck befreit. Die Journalistin Rahimi wird von ihrer Zeitung geschickt, dem Fall nachzugehen – und bekommt als Frau in einer von Männern dominierten Welt ein Hindernis nach dem anderen in den Weg gelegt. Doch Rahimi gibt ihre Suche nach der Wahrheit nicht einfach auf. Während die Behörden tatenlos zusehen, wie der Mörder ein Opfer nach dem anderen in sein Netz lockt, kommt sie dem Täter immer näher. Entsetzt muss sie feststellen, dass er von vielen Menschen in der Stadt als Held gefeiert wird und seine Verurteilung mehr als ungewiss scheint.
