Ricky Jay (geboren als Richard Jay Potash) war Schauspieler, Zauberkünstler, Kartenspieler und Filmberater. Seine Leidenschaft für Kartentricks und Täuschungsmanöver sowie sein tiefes Verständnis dieser Kunstformen brachten ihm weltweiten Ruhm und Respekt ein. Er wurde häufig als Berater für Filme und Fernsehserien engagiert, in denen Täuschung ein zentrales Handlungselement darstellte. Ricky war ein außergewöhnlicher Close-up-Zauberkünstler und Kartenkünstler, wirkte aber auch in Filmen wie „Boogie Nights“, „Der Morgen stirbt nie“ und „Magnolia“ sowie in Fernsehserien wie „Akte X“, „Deadwood“ (HBO) und David Mamets „The Unit“ mit. Dabei verkörperte er stets intensive Charaktere, die scheinbar alles wussten, ihre Informationen aber nur in Form von Rätseln und Andeutungen preisgaben.
