Madison, Gewinner des MovieGuide Awards, verbrachte seine Jugendjahre in Charlotte, North Carolina, wo er seine Karriere im Amateurtheater und im Sommertheater begann. Nach seinem Abschluss an der renommierten Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in Bristol, England, kehrte er an den New Yorker Broadway und Off-Broadway zurück und spielte mehrere Spielzeiten an Regionaltheatern wie dem McCarter Theatre in Princeton, dem Trinity Square Theatre in Providence und dem Front Street Theatre in Memphis, bevor er nach Hollywood ging und seine Film- und Fernsehkarriere startete.
