Josef Allen Hynek war ein US-amerikanischer Astronom, Professor und Ufologe. Er ist vor allem für seine UFO-Forschungen bekannt. Hynek war wissenschaftlicher Berater der US-Luftwaffe bei deren UFO-Studien im Rahmen dreier Projekte: Projekt Sign (1947–1949), Projekt Grudge (1949–1951) und Projekt Blue Book (1952–1969).
