Rosemary Theby (8. April 1892 – 10. November 1973) war eine US-amerikanische Filmschauspielerin. Zwischen 1911 und 1940 wirkte sie in rund 250 Filmen mit. Geboren als Rosemary Theresa Theby in St. Louis, Missouri, besuchte sie die Sargent’s School in New York. Ein zeitgenössischer Zeitungsbericht beschrieb sie als „mittelgroß, wohlproportioniert, mit ebenmäßigen Gesichtszügen und dunklem Haar“. Ihre erste Filmerfahrung sammelte sie in der Vitagraph-Produktion „The Wager“. Bereits 1915 war sie ein Star der Universal Studios. Während des Ersten Weltkriegs kümmerte sich Theby um eine Flüchtlingsfrau aus Litauen. Nachdem die junge Frau von Theby ausgebildet und betreut worden war, wurde sie 1920, während eines akuten Mangels an Hausmädchen in Hollywood, deren Dienstmädchen. In „The Great Love“ (1918) verkörperte Theby als Miss Corintee mit großem Können eine deutsche Spionin. Der Film wurde von D.W. geschrieben und inszeniert. Griffith. Dies war eine Vamp-Rolle, die sie nach Auftritten in Slapstick-Komödien häufiger spielte. Theby verkörperte einen chinesischen Vampir in „Clung“, einer Fox-Filmproduktion unter der Regie von Emmett Flynn. Später spielte sie ernstere Frauenrollen. Theby war ausschließlich Filmschauspielerin. Sie lehnte ein Angebot ab, Chauncey Olcott für 85 Dollar pro Woche auf die Bühne zu begleiten. Zu dieser Zeit verdiente sie 125 Dollar pro Woche im Filmgeschäft. Später bereute sie ihre Entscheidung aufgrund der verpassten Erfahrung. Theby war mit dem Schauspieler und Regisseur Harry Myers verheiratet. Nach Myers’ Tod im Jahr 1938 heiratete sie Truitt Hughes, mit dem sie bis zu ihrem Tod verheiratet blieb. Sie lebte viele Jahre in der Wilcox Avenue 1907 in Los Angeles. Theby unterstützte Calvin Coolidge bei der Präsidentschaftswahl 1924. Sie spielte gern Golf, trug ihr Haar kurz und war sehr auf ihre Körperpflege bedacht. Auf der Leinwand wirkte sie groß und schlank und betrat, wie es in einer Kritik der Los Angeles Times hieß, die Szene mit einer „sinnlichen Anmut“. Theby starb am 10. November 1973 im Alter von 81 Jahren an Kreislaufschock.
