Thomas Donald Meek (14. Juli 1878 – 18. November 1946) war ein schottisch-amerikanischer Schauspieler. Er stand bereits mit acht Jahren zum ersten Mal öffentlich auf der Bühne und gab 1903 sein Broadway-Debüt. Meek ist vor allem für seine Rollen in den Filmen „You Can't Take It with You“ (1938) und „Stagecoach“ (1939) bekannt. 1960 wurde ihm posthum ein Stern auf dem Hollywood Walk of Fame verliehen. Meek wurde in Glasgow als Sohn von Matthew und Annie Meek geboren. In den 1890er Jahren wanderte die Familie Meek zunächst nach Kanada und später in die Vereinigten Staaten aus. Um 1900 lebte die Familie in Philadelphia, wo Meek laut US-Volkszählung als Verkäufer von Kurzwaren arbeitete und später auch als Schauspieler tätig war. Nach Jahren auf der Bühne wurde Meek Filmschauspieler und wirkte in Filmen wie „Die Abenteuer des Tom Sawyer“, „Little Miss Broadway“ und „State Fair“ mit. Bevor er Schauspieler wurde, kämpfte er im Spanisch-Amerikanischen Krieg in der US-Armee und erkrankte an Gelbfieber, was zu Haarausfall führte. In vielen seiner Filme verkörperte er ängstliche, besorgte Charaktere und ist wohl am bekanntesten für seine Rollen als Mr. Poppins in Frank Capras „You Can't Take It With You“ und als Whiskeyhändler Samuel Peacock in John Fords „Stagecoach“. Von 1931 bis 1932 spielte Meek den Kriminologen Dr. Crabtree in einer Reihe von zwölf Kurzfilmen (jeweils zwei Akte) von Warner Brothers, geschrieben von S.S. Van Dine. Meek und Isabella „Belle“ Walken heirateten am 3. Januar 1909 in einer methodistischen Kirche in Boston. Durch diese Heirat verlor die in Amerika geborene Belle Meek ihre US-amerikanische Staatsbürgerschaft und nahm die britische Staatsbürgerschaft ihres Mannes an. Donald Meek starb am 18. November 1946 in Los Angeles an Leukämie, während er die Rolle des Mr. Twiddle in „Magic Town“ drehte. Der vielbeschäftigte Filmschauspieler wirkte in über 100 Hollywood-Filmen des Goldenen Zeitalters mit und erhielt posthum einen Stern auf dem Hollywood Walk of Fame. Er wurde im Fairmount Mausoleum auf dem Fairmount Cemetery in Denver, Colorado, beigesetzt.
