Charles Lewis Napier (12. April 1936 – 5. Oktober 2011) war ein vielseitiger US-amerikanischer Schauspieler, bekannt für seine zahlreichen Nebenrollen und gelegentlichen Hauptrollen in Film und Fernsehen. Geboren in der Nähe von Scottsville, Kentucky, diente Napier in der US-Armee, bevor er ein Kunststudium an der Western Kentucky University aufnahm. Zunächst arbeitete er als Sporttrainer und Kunstlehrer, bevor er sich ganz der Schauspielerei widmete. Napier erlangte früh Bekanntheit durch seine Mitwirkung in mehreren Low-Budget-Filmen von Regisseur Russ Meyer, darunter sein Debüt in „Cherry, Harry & Raquel!“ (1969). Er wurde bekannt für seine Darstellung harter, autoritärer Charaktere wie Polizisten, Soldaten und Schurken, die oft eine raue oder korrupte Seite hatten. Zu seinen unvergesslichen Rollen zählen der jähzornige Country-Sänger Tucker McElroy in „The Blues Brothers“ (1980), der CIA-Agent Marshall Murdock in „Rambo II – Der Auftrag“ (1985) sowie zahlreiche Zusammenarbeiten mit Regisseur Jonathan Demme in Filmen wie „Das Schweigen der Lämmer“ (1991) und „Philadelphia“ (1993). Auch im Fernsehen war er in bemerkenswerten Rollen zu sehen, unter anderem in „Das A-Team“, „Oregon Trail“, „Star Trek: Die Originalserie“ und „Star Trek: Deep Space Nine“. Napier wurde für seine kraftvolle Stimme, seinen durchdringenden Blick und sein markantes Kinn geschätzt, die ihn zu einem herausragenden Charakterdarsteller machten. Napier starb 2011 im Alter von 75 Jahren in Bakersfield, Kalifornien, an einer Thrombose. Er veröffentlichte außerdem ein Buch über sein Leben mit dem Titel „Square Jaw and Big Heart“ .
