Mario van Peebles, Sohn des Filmemachers Melvin Van Peebles, ist ein US-amerikanischer Schauspieler und Regisseur. Anfang der 1990er Jahre gelangen ihm mit dem Gangsterfilm New Jack City (1991) und dem Western Posse – Die Rache des Jessie Lee (1993) zwei Erfolge vor und hinter der Kamera. Zuvor war der in Mexico-City geborene Mario Van Peebles bereits im Thriller Sweet Sweetbacks Lied (1971) von seinem Vater Melvin zu sehen und spielte im Militärfilm Heartbreak Ridge 1986 an der Seite von Clint Eastwood einen durchgeknallten Rockmusiker. Als Regisseur inszenierte Mario Van Peebles unter anderem eine Episode der Serie Lost.
