Harold Pinter war ein britischer Dramatiker, Drehbuchautor, Regisseur und Schauspieler. Der Nobelpreisträger Pinter zählte mit einer über 50-jährigen Schaffenszeit zu den einflussreichsten modernen britischen Dramatikern. Zu seinen bekanntesten Stücken gehören „Die Geburtstagsfeier“ (1957), „Die Heimkehr“ (1964) und „Betrayal“ (1978), die er jeweils auch für die Leinwand adaptierte. Seine Drehbuchadaptionen fremder Werke umfassen „Der Diener“ (1963), „Der Mittler“ (1971), „Die Geliebte des französischen Leutnants“ (1981), „Der Prozess“ (1993) und „Sleuth“ (2007). Er führte außerdem Regie und spielte in Hörspiel-, Bühnen-, Fernseh- und Filmproduktionen seiner eigenen und fremder Werke.
