Catherine Rosalind Russell war eine US-amerikanische Bühnen- und Filmschauspielerin, die vor allem für ihre Rolle als schlagfertige Zeitungsreporterin in Howard Hawks’ Screwball-Komödie „Sein Mädchen für besondere Fälle“ sowie für die Rolle der Mame Dennis im Film „Tante Mame“ bekannt ist. Sie gewann alle fünf Golden Globes, für die sie nominiert war, und teilte sich die Auszeichnung mit Meryl Streep bis 2007, als Streep ihren sechsten Golden Globe erhielt. Russell gewann 1953 einen Tony Award als Beste Hauptdarstellerin in einem Musical für ihre Darstellung der Ruth in dem Broadway-Musical „Wonderful Town“ (basierend auf dem Film „Meine Schwester Eileen“, in dem sie ebenfalls mitwirkte). Russell war bekannt für ihre Charakterrollen, insbesondere für die Darstellung außergewöhnlich wohlhabender, würdevoller und damenhafter Frauen. Sie blickte auf eine lange Karriere von den 1930er bis zu den 1970er Jahren zurück und führte ihre lange Karriere darauf zurück, dass sie, obwohl sie meist elegante und glamouröse Rollen spielte, nie zu einem Sexsymbol wurde, da sie nicht für ihr Aussehen berühmt war.
