Henry King war ein US-amerikanischer Schauspieler und Filmregisseur. Er gilt als einer der besten und erfolgreichsten Filmemacher seiner Zeit. Bevor er zum Film kam, arbeitete King als Schauspieler in verschiedenen Repertoiretheatern und übernahm ab 1912 erste kleinere Filmrollen. Zwischen 1913 und 1925 trat er in etwa sechzig Filmen als Schauspieler auf. 1915 führte er zum ersten Mal Regie und entwickelte sich zu einem der kommerziell erfolgreichsten Hollywood-Regisseure der 1920er und 1930er Jahre. Er wurde zweimal für den Oscar als Beste Regie nominiert. 1944 erhielt er für seinen Film Das Lied von Bernadette den ersten Golden Globe als Beste Regie. Am häufigsten arbeitete er mit Tyrone Power und Gregory Peck sowie für 20th Century Fox. Henry King war einer der 36 Gründer der Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, die jedes Jahr herausragende filmische Leistungen auszeichnet. Er führte im Laufe seiner Karriere bei über 100 Filmen Regie, darunter sieben, die für den Oscar als Bester Film nominiert waren. 1955 wurde King mit dem George Eastman Award ausgezeichnet, der vom George Eastman House für herausragende Beiträge zur Filmkunst verliehen wird.
