Edgar Georg Ulmer war ein österreichischer Filmregisseur, der hauptsächlich in Hollywood-B-Movies und anderen Low-Budget-Produktionen arbeitete und sich aufgrund seiner äußerst produktiven Produktionen für verschiedene Poverty Row Studios schließlich den Beinamen „König des PRC“ verdiente. Seine stilvollen und exzentrischen Werke wurden in den Jahren nach seiner Pensionierung von Filmkritikern geschätzt. Zu Ulmers bekanntesten Produktionen zählen der Horrorfilm Die schwarze Katze (1934) und der Film Noir Detour (1945).
