Tom Jones (geboren als Thomas John Woodward in Trefforest, Pontypridd, Glamorgan, Wales) ist ein walisischer Sänger und Schauspieler. Sir Thomas John Woodward OBE, bekannt unter seinem Künstlernamen Tom Jones, begann seine Karriere Mitte der 1960er-Jahre mit einer Reihe von Top-Ten-Hits. Er tourte regelmäßig und trat auch in Las Vegas auf. Stephen Thomas Erlewine von AllMusic beschrieb Jones' Stimme als einen „vollmundigen, kräftigen Bariton“. Sein Repertoire umfasst Pop, R&B, Musicalmelodien, Country, Dance, Soul und Gospel. 2008 bezeichnete die New York Times Jones als musikalischen „Verwandlungskünstler“, der „mit einer ebenso rauchigen wie schönen Stimme mühelos zwischen gefühlvollem, rauem Gesang und Pop-Crooning wechseln“ könne. Tom Jones verkaufte über 100 Millionen Tonträger und landete 36 Top-40-Hits in Großbritannien und 19 in den USA, darunter „It’s Not Unusual“, „What’s New Pussycat“, den Titelsong des James-Bond-Films „Feuerball“ von 1965, „Green, Green Grass of Home“, „Delilah“, „She’s a Lady“, „Kiss“ und „Sex Bomb“. Sein Schauspieldebüt gab Jones 1979 in der Hauptrolle des Fernsehfilms „Pleasure Cove“. In Tim Burtons Film „Mars Attacks!“ von 1996 spielte er sich selbst. 1970 wurde er für seine Moderation der Fernsehserie „This Is Tom Jones“ für einen Golden Globe als Bester Schauspieler in einer Fernsehserie (Musical oder Comedy) nominiert. 2012 hatte er einen Gastauftritt in einer Folge von „Playhouse Presents“. Jones erhielt 1966 einen Grammy Award als bester neuer Künstler, 1989 einen MTV Video Music Award sowie zwei Brit Awards: 2000 als bester britischer Künstler und 2003 für seinen herausragenden Beitrag zur Musik. 1998 wurde er zum Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) ernannt und 2005 von Königin Elizabeth II. für seine Verdienste um die Musik zum Ritter geschlagen. In den 2010er-Jahren erlebte Jones durch seine Tätigkeit als Coach in der britischen Castingshow „The Voice“ ab 2012 (mit Ausnahme von 2016) ein Comeback.
