Perry King, geboren als Perry Firestone King, gab sein Filmdebüt mit etwa 23 Jahren in dem Film „Schlachthof 5“ (1972). 1975 verkörperte er Hammond Maxwell in dem Exploitationfilm „Mandingo“. Seit den 1970er-Jahren wirkte er in Dutzenden von Kinofilmen, Fernsehserien und Fernsehfilmen mit. Er sprach für die Rolle des Han Solo in „Star Wars“ vor, die jedoch letztendlich an Harrison Ford ging. In den Hörspielbearbeitungen von „Star Wars“ und den beiden Fortsetzungen sprach er die Figur jedoch selbst. 1984 wurde King für seine Rolle in dem Fernsehfilm „The Hasty Heart“ für einen Golden Globe nominiert. Im selben Jahr erhielt er die Rolle des Cody Allen in der Serie „Riptide“. 1993 spielte er die Hauptrolle in der Fernsehverfilmung von Sidney Sheldons Roman „A Stranger in the Mirror“, einem Schlüsselroman über Groucho Marx. 1995 verkörperte er die Rolle des Hayley Armstrong in „Melrose Place“. Im Jahr 2000 spielte er Richard Williams in der NBC-Fernsehserie „Titans“ an der Seite von Yasmine Bleeth und 2004 den Präsidenten der Vereinigten Staaten in dem Film „The Day After Tomorrow“. King hatte Gastauftritte in Fernsehserien wie „Spin City“, „Will & Grace“, „Eve“ und „Cold Case“.
