Robert Benton war ein US-amerikanischer Regisseur, Drehbuchautor und Filmproduzent. Seine Bekanntheit begründete er zunächst als Drehbuchautor, um dann als Regisseur internationale Erfolge zu erzielen. Für seinen Welterfolg Kramer gegen Kramer, wie auch für seine späteren Regiearbeiten, war sein eigenes Drehbuch häufig Vorlage.
