Delmer Lawrence Daves war ein US-amerikanischer Drehbuchautor, Filmregisseur und Filmproduzent. Er arbeitete in vielen Genres, darunter Film Noir und Kriegsfilme, ist aber vor allem für seine Western bekannt, insbesondere für „Der gebrochene Pfeil“ (1950), „Der letzte Wagen“ (1956), „Zähl bis drei und bete“ (1957) und „Der Galgenbaum“ (1959). Nach Herzproblemen im Jahr 1959 durfte er nur noch ausschließlich an Studiofilmen arbeiten.
