Der Charakterdarsteller Virgil Charles Frye wurde am 21. August 1930 in Estherville, Iowa, geboren. Der ehemalige Golden-Gloves-Boxmeister arbeitete auf den Maisfeldern Iowas und engagierte sich in der Bürgerrechtsbewegung in Alabama, bevor er Mitte der 1960er-Jahre seine Schauspielkarriere in Film und Fernsehen begann. Virgil verkörperte häufig harte Kerle oder Polizisten. Er war Vater von Sean Frye und Soleil Moon Frye und leitete außerdem eine erfolgreiche Schauspielschule in den Hollywood Hills. In seinen späteren Jahren litt Virgil an der Pick-Krankheit, auch bekannt als frontotemporale Demenz (FTD). Seine Tochter Soleil porträtierte ihn in dem Dokumentarfilm „Sonny Boy“ (2004). Frye starb am 7. Mai 2012 in einem Pflegeheim in Orange County, Kalifornien.
