Nora Cecil (20. September 1878 – 1. Mai 1951) war eine britisch-amerikanische Charakterdarstellerin, deren 30-jährige Karriere sowohl die Stummfilm- als auch die Tonfilmära umfasste. Cecils Karriere begann auf der Bühne, wo sie in einer einzigen Broadway-Produktion, „Dornröschen und das Biest“, mitwirkte, die 1901/02 über 240 Mal im Broadway Theatre aufgeführt wurde. (Ein Zeitungsartikel von 1930 besagt, dass Cecil „vor drei Jahrzehnten ihr Debüt auf der Londoner Bühne gab“.) Cecil wirkte in weit über 100 Spielfilmen und Kurzfilmen mit. 1915 wechselte sie von der Bühne zum Film und gab ihr Filmdebüt in einer Hauptrolle in „Die Ankunft der Perpetua“ unter der Regie von Émile Chautard. Sie verkörperte oft „schlanklippige, streng wirkende Witwen und unnahbare Schwiegermütter“ sowie „Sozialarbeiterinnen, Vermieterinnen, Lehrerinnen und unverheiratete Tanten“. Eine ihrer bedeutendsten Rollen spielte sie 1934 in dem W.C.-Fields-Film „The Old Fashioned Way“. Zu den weiteren bemerkenswerten Filmen, in denen Cecil mitwirkte, zählen: Ernst Lubitschs Historienfilm „Die lustige Witwe“ mit Maurice Chevalier und Jeanette MacDonald; die Verfilmung von „Die Abenteuer des Huckleberry Finn“ aus dem Jahr 1939 mit Mickey Rooney; und John Fords Klassiker „Stagecoach“ mit John Wayne. Ihre letzte Filmrolle hatte sie 1947 in „Trauer muss Elektra tragen“ an der Seite von Rosalind Russell.
