They Call Me Chamar (1979)
About 30 km away from Varanasi there is a small village of Dhakvan, where lives a Brahmin named Ram Dayal Dixit who has been living among Harijans, like a Harijan. He has also married a Harijan girl. This act of his invited a great wrath from the caste Hindus. He had to suffer a lot. Ram Dayal a fighter for the cause is not afraid of being called a chamar. But his story very sharply reveals the caste-ridden society that India is, particularly in its villages of north India.
