Between 2008 and 2010, the project "Improving Food Sovereignty in the Andean Region of Ancash" was implemented in 20 communities in the districts of Carhuaz and Pamparomás, located in the Cordillera Negra mountain range. More than 300 families established organic gardens and received training in healthy eating with the goals of becoming self-sufficient in diverse foods and reducing childhood malnutrition, which was prevalent among many children. The mothers, the main drivers of this transformation, share some lessons learned from this experience.
