After the death of her mother, Alice, who was born out of wedlock, learns that her father, who was thought to be dead, is still alive. Unopened letters from the estate put the 18-year-old on the trail of the composer Max Rab, one of her mother's ex-lovers. Under a pretext, Alice manages to move in with the supposed Rab father.
