Biography:

Nelson Garrido (Caracas, August 24, 1952 – August 20, 2026) was a Venezuelan photographer and visual artist. In 1991, he became the first Venezuelan photographer to receive the National Prize for Visual Arts. He was the founder of the Organización Nelson Garrido, known as La ONG, a photography school and alternative cultural center based in Caracas. His work developed an iconographic language combining religion, eroticism, humor, and popular imagery, and repeatedly addressed social violence in Venezuela.
