Berlin, Germany:
Paul Markwitz was a German production designer and art director who began his career assisting on film sets in both Germany and Hollywood before moving into set design in 1934. Over his long career he contributed to many popular films, mostly comedies, operettas and music revues, working with notable filmmakers and production companies, and he returned to the industry after World War II service and captivity. He died at the age of 59 when he jumped into a Berlin canal with suicidal intent and drowned.
