Ashish Dawar

Biography:

Ashish Dawar is a cinematographer based in Los Angeles. His early interest in art, storytelling and technology lead him to shooting and producing a variety of content in India. The first narrative feature, UNDER THE SAME SUN (2011), had a world premier at the Mill Valley Film Festival 2015 in San Francisco. It won the Silver Audience Choice Award & won a double - Best Foreign Film & Humanitarian Award at the Sedona International Film Festival 2017. Subsequently, he had the opportunity to shoot a language feature, KANDATHAI SOLLUGIREN (2015) & documentary feature JHATKA (2014) for National Award winning director, B.Lenin. After working on features, documentaries and commercials for 5 years, He moved to Los Angeles in 2015 as a Cinematography fellow(MFA) at the American Film Institute Conservatory(AFI). He is trained to shoot on film. But he is also an early adopter of digital technology such as expertise with advanced digital workflow's & stop-motion technology. Ashish's projects have taken him places. From shooting in a picturesque port-town of Maine to the slopes of the Himalayas, filming in the city of Kampala or in the studio's of Mumbai, discovering humanity in the remote villages of Maharastra, Karnataka & Tamil Nadu, exploring the deserts of Tibet, Rajasthan and Los Angeles, alike.
