Biography:

Belal Abbas is an Egyptian writer, art director, co-director, and co-founder of Still Learning Films, an independent filmmaking collective dedicated to emotionally driven storytelling and visually distinctive cinema, His work bridges screenwriting, visual development, and creative direction, allowing him to shape films from their earliest concepts through their final cinematic form. As a writer, Abbas is drawn to intimate, character-focused narratives that explore memory, identity, relationships, and the quiet emotional complexities of everyday life. As an art director, he develops visual worlds that strengthen narrative meaning through symbolism, atmosphere, and thoughtful production design. His collaborative approach as a co-director contributes to both the creative vision and the execution of each project, with a strong emphasis on authentic performances and expressive visual storytelling. His first official film credit is Passing By (2026), a short film written, art directed, and co-directed by Abbas alongside director Mouhamed Hesham, marking the beginning of his professional filmmaking career and establishing his creative voice within Egypt's independent cinema scene.
