Hijos de un dios menor (1986)
James es el nuevo profesor de dicción en una escuela para sordos. Rápidamente se enamora de Sarah, una alumna que prefiere permanecer en la escuela antes que exponerse al duro mundo exterior. Ella empieza rechazándolo, pero poco a poco irá aceptando su ayuda y acabará abriéndole su corazón. Un melodrama a la antigua usanza que obtuvo un gran éxito en su día, siendo nominado para los premios Óscar a mejor película, actor principal, actriz principal y secundaria, y guion adaptado. De todos ellos, sólo consiguió la estatuilla la debutante actriz sordomuda Marlee Matlin, en una de las mayores sorpresas que se recuerdan en la historia de estos premios. La intérprete inició así una productiva carrera qe la llevó a protagonizar series como "Dudas razonables" y "Picket Fences", y filmes como "Walker" o "Sombras en el silencio".
