El policía Jack Friar (Samuel L. Jackson) se encuentra muy abatido y necesita tomarse unas vacaciones fuera de la ciudad para dedicarse a su verdadera pasión: el violonchelo. Cuando está a punto de salir de viaje, una vecina le pide ayuda para encontrar a su hija que se ha fugado con su novio. Jack acepta, aunque a regañadientes. Sólo tiene dos pistas: una foto de la pareja y el nombre de la calle, donde supuestamente vive el novio de la chica.
