Laurel Springs es un pueblo que recibe una suculenta oferta comercial para un nuevo proyecto que podría traer prosperidad económica a sus habitantes. Pero una periodista local está convencida de que hay gato encerrado. En medio del alboroto, una avería en un semáforo provoca un aparatoso accidente entre dos coches. Los conductores, gravemente heridos son Charlotte, la periodista y el forastero enviado para convencer a todos del nuevo proyecto. Ambos entran en estado de coma, pero es en esa dimensión donde conectan sus espíritus para emprender el camino de regreso a la vida.
