La película cuenta la historia de terror de un bebé deforme que, sin explicación alguna, ha nacido con instintos asesinos. El día de su nacimiento, escapa del hospital y los padres del niño empiezan a ser el centro de la atención pública. Primera película de una trilogía dirigida en su totalidad por Larry Cohen, en 2008 se realizó una nueva versión de esta historia.
