Richard Carson, un ambicioso multimillonario, quiere apropiarse del satélite terrestre y explotar la fuente de energía limpia y real del futuro, el Helio 3. Para ello, deberá borrar de la Historia la gesta de los astronautas del Apolo XI y sus famosos primeros pasos por la Luna, algo que el 40% de la población mundial cree que es mentira. Y el único capaz de impedir que se salga con la suya es un simpático y decidido surfero de doce años, Mike Goldwing. Con la ayuda de sus amigos, el friki Marty, la futura periodista Amy y un pequeño lagarto con aspiraciones de ser Godzilla, viajan a la Luna acompañados por el abuelo de Mike, un antiguo astronauta que lleva años distanciado de su familia. Ahora está en las manos de Mike no sólo salvar el futuro de la Tierra, sino el de su propia familia.
